Around 60,000 breeding pairs of Brvºnnich‚Äs guillemots gather on the hundred metre rocks which stretch for several kilometres. The birds - also known as thick-billed murres - are excellent divers, and can reach incredible depths of up to 150 metres and remain underwater for up to four minutes. The photos of the cliff of Alkefjellet, meaning 'mountain of the guillemots, were taken by American photographer Kah-Wai Lin in the Svalbard islands of the Norwegian Arctic.
